Why isn't my eSIM connecting? Troubleshooting steps

A calm, step-by-step checklist for the most common reasons a travel eSIM isn't getting data, before you contact support.

If your BrisqNet eSIM isn't giving you data, the cause is usually one of a small number of common issues, and most are quick to check yourself before contacting support. Work through these in order.

1. Confirm your device and plan are actually compatible

Not every phone supports eSIM, and carrier-locked devices can behave unpredictably. If you're not certain your device is eSIM-compatible and unlocked, check our supported devices guide before assuming something else is wrong.

2. Check the eSIM line is turned on

Installing an eSIM doesn't automatically activate it. In your phone's cellular or mobile network settings, confirm your BrisqNet line is switched on and not just installed.

3. Make sure mobile data is routed to the right line

If you have both a regular SIM and your BrisqNet eSIM active, check your phone's data settings to confirm mobile data is set to use your BrisqNet line, not your other SIM. This is a very common cause of 'no data' on a correctly installed eSIM.

4. Turn on data roaming for the eSIM line, if required

Some devices treat a travel eSIM's connection abroad as roaming and require data roaming to be switched on specifically for that line, even though it's your travel data plan. Check this setting alongside the main data toggle.

5. Confirm you've actually arrived in a covered area

Coverage depends on partner networks in each destination and can vary by region within a country. If you're in a remote area, check the destination's coverage information — this isn't always a device or account issue.

6. Restart, or toggle airplane mode

A simple restart, or briefly turning on airplane mode and switching it off again, resolves a surprising number of temporary connection issues by forcing your phone to reselect a network.

7. Check your plan is actually still active

Sign in to your BrisqNet account and confirm your plan hasn't expired or run out of data — see our guides on what happens when data expires and what happens when you use all your data.

8. Contact support

If you've worked through the steps above and you're still not connecting, contact BrisqNet support with your order reference and device model — that's faster for us to diagnose than starting from scratch.

Should I delete and reinstall my eSIM if it's not working?

Not as a first step. Deleting an eSIM profile can require a replacement installation from support, so work through the checks above first — most connection issues don't require reinstalling anything.

Why does my phone show the eSIM installed but no signal?

This usually means the line isn't switched on, mobile data isn't routed to it, data roaming needs enabling for that line, or you're in an area with limited coverage — check each in turn.
