What happens when you use all your eSIM data?

Running out of data mid-trip isn't a dead end. Here's what to expect and how to add more without losing your connection for long.

Using up a data allowance before a trip ends is a common, manageable situation — it's not the same as your plan expiring, and it's usually a quick fix.

What happens at the limit

Once you've used the full data allowance on a plan, that plan stops providing a connection, even if its validity window hasn't ended yet. Your phone will typically show no data connectivity on that line until you add more.

How to get back online

  • Sign in to your BrisqNet account (over Wi-Fi, if your data is fully used) and buy an additional plan or top-up for your destination
  • The new plan applies to your existing installed eSIM — there's no need to reinstall or scan a new QR code
  • Use accommodation or café Wi-Fi in the meantime if you need to get online before topping up

Avoiding it next time

If you regularly run out before a trip ends, it's usually a sign to size your next plan up. Streaming video, using your phone as a hotspot, and heavy video calling are the biggest drivers of unexpectedly high usage — see our guide on how much travel data you actually need for a more precise estimate.

Will I be charged automatically if I run out of data?

No — BrisqNet doesn't automatically charge you for more data. You choose and pay for a new plan when you want one.

Can I monitor my data usage during a trip?

Yes — check your usage in the BrisqNet app so you can top up before you're fully out, rather than after.
